Puziniškis Museum (Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė's Birthplace)

Historically, Puziniškis in Lithuanian culture is known as the Northern Lithuanian centre for the national movement and the national identity fights through the book smugglers at the end of the 19th and the start of the 20th century. It is also a birth place of one of the famous classics in literature, public activist and the pedagogue – Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė (1861–1943). The manor’s main building was built in 1901 according to the project of Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė’s brother. Its restoration was facilitated by the EU funds, in 2009. The museum holds cultural events and educational sessions introducing facts from the writer’s life and the cultural resistance to the repressive actions of the Tsarist Russia. Since 1983, famous Lithuanian writers are being awarded the G. Petkevičaitė-Bitė prize in literature.
